List of legions
Note that all legions are standardised and these descriptions show their small differences - specialization/favorite combat tactics.
I. Legio Aralâi
Aralâi, the royal army, is legion made of the overall best individuals who proved to excel or were good at most roles and tactics. It is elite legion capable to adapt to most situations. While maintaining strong traditions, soldiers of the I. Legion are encouraged to always think outside of the box.
II. Legio Ceventir
Ceventir, the home guard, is exception amongst the legions for it is four times larger than the others. The legion´s sole purpose is the safety of Arnor and its home planet. Featuring plans, strategies and exercises for all sorts of situations from alien invasion to sudden underground incursion. There is even a war plan Nirnaeth which includes defence from Denebol and retaliation if the situation allowed it. Soldiers of the Ceventir legion are well acquainted with all terrains and biomes of the planet. A lot of the personnel in the legion is only temporary transferred into Ceventir, because of newborns and small children.
III. Legio Angruin
Angruin, the Iron Fire, is "the armoured legion" of Arnor. As much as Arnorian military heavily relies on infantry, the legions still use some level of armour and mechanization and the Angruin is as close to combined arms as it can get. Soldiers of III. Legion are proud for their use and maintenance of their vehicles and bear the biggest firepower among the legions.
IV. Legio Súrissë
Súrissë, the Cut of the Wind, is legion that favors vertical combat. A metropolis with tall buildings, mountains, canyons and other similar landscapes are their home ground. If possible, this legion likes to cooperate with the Air forces and air drops into the war zone. Soldiers of the IV. Legion broadly use jetpacks, grapples and climbing techniques.
V. Legio Turuhîr
Turuhîr, the Lords of Victory, is very aggressive legion. Focused on shock attacks and moral damage the V. Legion´s aim is to inflict as much death and chaos in a shortest time possible. Not effective against all, but for many enemies a mere presence of this legion is enough to break at first contact. Soldiers of the Turuhîr legion are sometimes seen as monsters, but they are definitely not and their tactics can save lives of those who wouldn´t run if otherwise.
VI. Legio Ithildin
Ithildin, the Moon Star, is a legion that is entrusted with newest and experimental equipment. Once the equipment leaves laboratories and testing sites, this legion gets it first to try it in field conditions. The soldiers of this legion are well prepared to give feedback and many suggestions for tweaks. It is usually very lucrative for the legion, but there are occasions where the equipment malfunctioned and therefore caused losses. Interesting fact is that one of the Mithril alloys is named after this legion.
VII. Legio Hundië
Hundië, the Thunder, is a legion that favors Bolters and other long ranged weaponry the most. While other legions often use a combination of long ranged, melee and witchering warfare, this legion is not very inclined to either melee or "magic". Not that the legion wouldn´t employ witchers and witches and wasn´t prepared to use melee, but it is not something they would trust. Many soldier of this legion belong to best marksmans available.
VIII. Legio Annanto
Annanto, the Gift Givers, is a legion interested in humanitarian missions. They like to break blockages and encirclements for supply or evacuation corridors, pacify local populations and work with local foreing forces. While other legions have orders to help restore infrastructure, if situations allow it, the soldiers of this legion gladly rush to it and work beyond their duties.
IX. Legio Estel
Estel, the Hope, is a legion mildly similar to Annanto legion. They focus on helping the pro - Accord resistance on hostile controlled planets. Estel legion supplies and trains resistance fighters, helps to coordinate them and once a full scale rebelion fires, joins the fray. The soldiers of this legion are very exceptional in their desire to learn foreing customs and languages and befriend with foreigners as much as it is possible for Arnorians.
X. Legio Gwenyn
Gwenyn, the Twins, is a legion made of two. The disbandment caused rearranging of most personnel in legions and several were canceled. This legion is unique because it is a mix of two legions merged together. As such, the legion is a wild card. Sometimes two different strategies work so perfectly together that none can rival them, other times it is a mess. The soldiers of this legion are like actual siblings, fighting among themselves in peace, but once in danger, they flock together to fight for each other to death.
XI. Legio Ancalë
Ancalë, the Radiant one, is legion heavily oriented on witchers and witches. Their use of Subdimensional powers and faith in Yárcarniel is second to no one. It is actually very unclear if their loyalty is to the Arnor and the king or to the Yárcarniel and the Sisters. Nevertheless, the display of their powers on battlefields is breathtaking. The soldiers of this legion are very well trained in usage of Subdimension and cooperation with witchers and witches of the legion. It should be noted that this legion receives help from the Sisters the most.
XII. Legio Valto
Valto, the Lucky, is legion that finds itself in all sorts of unpleasant positions. The legion is sent to worst environments and most brutal fights. It is no coincidence for the legion excels and is specialized in such fights. A disease-ridden jungle with deadly flora and fauna, freezing stormy pole, hot desert with enormous predator creatures, gravity-ripped planet with asteroids and crushing rocks is just a small list of places where this legion operates. The soldiers of this legion are experts in hazardous terrain and ones that could compete with the I. Legio Aralâi any day. They, however, have problems of their own. The veterans of the legion are sometimes without reason grim and quiet and sometimes cheerful with huge smiles where it is not very appropriate. There is also an unfortunate truth about their losses for only handful of recruits has time to find one's feet.
Bits of historical origins of the legions
Although legions above are result of long evolution throughout the history and mostly outcome of Arnorian expansion during Arnorian Crisis, some level of their culture began as far as the Great war. Veterans of the I., VI. and XII. legion can be traced to sector army group Arnor while III., V. and VII. to sector army group Gondor. IV., VIII., IX. and XI. legion has a core from sector army group Harondor. The II. legion is made by former members of all sector army groups. The two legions that merged together to form X. legion come from Arnor and Harondor.
