Arnorian Military

Arnorian military has largely shifted from Legion oriented armies to Company focused forces. This change came as response to most forces leaving to operate offworld and to disbandment of large portion of military. Companies have become more permanent although they can still be rearranged. Most of the Companies are usually made of Praetorians who form an elite assault squad, part of the Legion which makes a main body of the Company and Rangers who unsurprisingly scout, flank and harass the enemy. In some instances, a squad of the Sisters can join Company too, but there are a few companies who have them permanently. The transition to Companies means more flexibility and modularity. Instead of large front-line battles of Barbarian war, where Legions excelled, Arnor now faces smaller and more dispersed enemies. Smaller elite specialized forces are better suited for this kind of fights.

Arnorians are used to fight outnumbered. Skirmishes and large battles on open fields, in wilds and on battlements of their forts is what they are best in. Infiltration and sabotages are just not their thing.

It may seem that Arnorians are using melee warfare very often, but that is not yet the case. Melee warfare was developed because of endless barbarian hordes, that charged in close. It is truth, that Arnorians are sometimes using melee in shock attacks, reeking havoc in enemy lines and with Sub-dimensional powers, the melee warfare is becoming preferred choice. Nevertheless, main tactics are still focused around guns. 

Every man and woman have to absolve basic training and have an option to absolve two years military service (usually not in front lines), unless they are disabled. 

Arnorian transports are similar to HAVw A6 Juggernaut from star wars and come in different sizes. Tanks are similar to Sicaran Battle Tank from Warhammer 40k. Due to industrial power being aimed to infantry equipment and overall low manpower needed to sustain such production, vehicles are more or less rarity. 


Legions are the main part of Arnorian military. After the disbandment, legions have been downsized to 1200 fighting men and 840 supporting personnel, leaving each legion with number of 2040. Each legion is made of 12 cohorts of fighting men, each cohort of 5 maniples and each maniple of 5 centuries. Four of the centuries usually join together to form two contuberniums of 8 men, leaving one century of 4. The men and women of supporting personnel are the auxiliaries and most of them often fight alongside with the legionaries who are the fighting personnel.

The auxiliary units are medics, engineers, drivers/logisticians, scouts, signal technicians and witchers/witches. Though everyone in legion is trained in basics, the auxiliaries are given specialized education to make them experts in their fields of military profession.

Both legionaries and auxiliaries can apply for position in finance, quartermaster, law and other administrative positions within the legion. All according to their rank.

Every legion is commanded by legatus, who can be subordinate to general (who have also command over militia and all other military branches) or directly to Captain-General who after the High King is highest ranking officer. Ranks under captain rank are also divided into three (for instance ´´Centurion Prior´´-´´Centurion´´-´´Centurion Posterior´´ in a sense that Prior is higher and Posterior lesser).

Legionaries

Legionaries are the fighting men and women of the legions. They come in several varieties, but ultimately share most of the equipment and same armour. (Gondorian movie style)

Anccesus/Anccesi - are lighter troops designed for more loose skirmishes where movement is essential. Several plates of their armour are changed for lighter and few outright striped off. They are equipped with B/IB carbines and assault B/IB. They come shieldless and use mostly one-handed shortswords, broadswords and falchions.

Centuriae/Centurii - are heavier troops designed for urban warfare and tighter spaces, but find uses on open fields as well. Their armour is modified with extra plating and their equipment always contains a tower shield or scutum. They broadly use spears and glaives and have two explosive pila. Depending on their more frequent missions they use gladius or arming sword and one handed B/IB carbines.

Legione/Legionis - are the backbone and most common variety of legionaries. Equipped with standard Knight armour, Legionis are the frontline soldiers that are flexible for nearly any situation, especially when supported by other varieties. Their weaponry is made of assault B/IB or RAB/RAIB, armshield or retractable scutum and longsword.

Alare/Alaris  - are the heavy weapon specialists. Their armour is slightly modified with extra plating and anti-explosive padding. They are armed with a B/IB carbine and heavy B/IB, armshield and arming sword. The old anti-armor weapons are to be phased out by Lance weaponry. These troopers are aditionaly given above standard training in explosives.

Evocatus/Evocati - are the best of the veterans from all other varieties. Their skills and intuition have given them right to extensively modify their armour and possibility to be deployed with any variety on any task. They also work sort of outside of the command structure as advisors to commanding officers and other soldiers. Evocati are the ones who then may proceed to be adepts for Praetorians and therefore adepts for Squire Palatina. Some Evocati are continuing into the Rangers, but only a few as Rangers gain their recruits mostly from scouts, not to speak about the difference in style of warfare.


Cohortes Vigilum

The Vigiles are various planetary defence forces made from its inhabitants. Formed primarly to suplement Arnorian forces on their respective planets. The best units are recruited to stand with Legions and Companies on other planets and in diferent conflicts. They are directly under Arnorian authorities and work as "cannon fodders". Not completely weak, but they cannot match the warriors of Arnor nor even agents of Shield and Denebolian forces.

Praetorian Guard

Praetorians are royal guards of the king and queen. They are accompanying them and guard Royal palace, Senate and Royal Council chambers. Praetorians are also tasked to accompany senators, council members and important individuals, if situation demands so. Many of them are in the Order of the White Tree. This allows them to be deployed to the fields of battle. They are being constatly rotated into the Order and back to Guard, so they will remain, after Sisters of Blood, best warriors of Arnor. They have unrestricted access to best equipment in Arnorian armory. [Gondorian Tower (Fountain) Guard style armor] 

Ranger Corps

Divided from standard army these brave soldiers are roaming thru wilderness and hunt down small groups of enemies or harass bigger warbands. Their armor is more focused on movement and stealth (Dúnedain rangers of the North style) and with cloaking cloaks, enemies are often unaware of them before it is to late.

Exceptional scouts, guerilla warfare fighters and experts in wild and rural terrain. They use mostly RAB/RAIB modified into a sniper rifle, longsword and backup firearm, but are permitted to choose large range of equipment from Arnorian armory.


Sisters of Blood

Small number of best, strong willed, resilient arnorian warrioresses, who were able to overcome madness caused by extensive enhancement. They are trained in Arnorian arts of war to perfection and even use styles unique only to them. Fast, deadly machines on battlefield, where they perform something what looks more like a dance of death than a fight. They are inspiring allies around them and strike fear in enemy lines.

Most of the time, they partially suppress their psychic abilities, because others are often stunned or lost in thought simply by Sister´s presence. However, if they unleash their psychic abilities, the power outright radiates from them and they can raise hope in the most devastated person on the battlefield or shake the bravest of the mightiest Arnorians. Even though they are most sensitive to Subdimension, they don´t focus on it as witchers and witches do. They rather focus on physical warfare and use Subdimension mostly on Signs or boosting their strength, agility and protection.

Their extensive enhancement builds upon general Arnorian enhancement, although it is far more severe. Body of the Sisters is partially changed on cellular level. Their bones, muscles, flesh and skin are additionally hardened and densered. To name a few changes, their bones, for instance, are naturally more reinforced with boron, making them nearly unbreakable and their skin contains spider silk and organic kevlar like nanofibers. This makes them walk from serious car crash without a single scratch and prevents high radioactive poisoning. Their blood is able to quickly seal wounds and stop bleeding, leaving them combat-ready even with a missing limb. Strength, speed and dexterity is greatly increased. Lifting strength can exceed 15 tons. Maximum running speed is estimated to be around 110 Kmh. They are able to accelerate their bodies in speed of nearly 550 m/s. Perception and the speed of thinking reaches an incomprehensible limits with reaction time under 15 milliseconds. Eyes are able to see in the dark better than any night vision. As for hearing, the Sisters are able to hear their neighbors heart beating or dropped pin. Smell and taste is improved to the point, where they can track very well (even electromagnetic traces) or tell difference between poisonous and edible. Though it is not very useful when their immune system handles most of poisons, toxins and diseases with ease. However, common food can sustain them only for limited amount of time and they need human blood to stay fit both physically and mentally. Mentally, because of the thirst that would eventually lead to madness after few months or years and physically, because they digest properties of the foreign blood and make their enhanced one of it.

If mental health is not taken into account, they can technically survive without the blood for decades (if not injured), however, it weakens them a lot as the blood informations and properties deteriorate. On the other hand, with proper lifestyle, The Sisters can live several hundreds of years before experiencing slightest hint of ageing. They can even be immortal, if they would consume blood more frequently and in bigger portions. Such consumption is however addictive. It will make them even stronger, but it comes at the cost of their sanity as it makes them crazy. Each Sister is affected differently. Some are speedy, some sleepy, but most of them turn evil, sadistic, unforgiving in order to get more blood. 

The only additional organ the Sisters have and humans don´t is the forestomach. This organ is right above the stomach and is separated by the equivalent of the epiglottis. When the Sister consumes blood, the "lower" epiglottis opens to pass consumed blood into the forestomach. If the blood is consumed together with food, the food ending up in the forestomach is not digested. Because the digestion of properties of the blood in forestomach can take even days before being passed into the stomach, the Sister is either unable to consume more blood or is forced to consume lots of it in order to rinse the forestomach.

Because of dangerous procedure of enhancement, reinforcements for them are hardly come by and their numbers remain small. On special request, they can be assigned as Royal Guards of the Queen instead of Praetorians. In that case, they form equivalent to Order of the White Tree and that is Order of the Silver Lily. Unlike Praetorians who are only permitted to use best equipment from arnorian armory, The Sisters are getting equipment that is unavailable even to the armory. G.U.A.R.D

Arnorian contribution/part of G.U.A.R.D. is through few volunteers from Sisters of Blood and adepts for Praetorians. They will be both bound by an oath of silence, making them into Silent Sisters and Squire Palatina. Each Sister will have several Squires as auxiliary force. These auxiliary forces can act as backups, administrative and maintenance operators or directly fight side by side with the Sisters. Though Squires can't match the SHIELD Guards, they are balanced by The Sisters, who surpass other Guards in every way but technology and agent/undercover skills.

Equipment will be same as for Sisters of Blood and Praetorians, possibly with some modifications from SHIELD here and there.

Although G.U.A.R.D. is not an army, the number of Silent Sisters and therefore also the Squires Palatina will be, due to the already small number of Sisters of Blood, very small.

Arnorian members of G.U.A.R.D. also refuse to be called agents. They take this as a disgrace or an outright insult. 


Air Force

The Air Force has main group for their operations and several support groups that are attached to Land Forces and Navy. Arnor is currently using only convertiplane transports, a versatile starfighter which can be also used as bomber or reconnaissance (Similar to ARC-170 from star wars) and air drones which are armed with single bolter turret and several rockets. They are used for scouting and are capable of great damage, but there is no way they would match the Denebolian Air & Space Force.


Coastal Guard

Arnorian navy is nearly non existent and thus there is not yet any standardisation except armor which has supply of air. (Dol amroth and Pelargir style armor)


Arnorian Royal Space Navy

Often nicknamed Spaceguard, after its marines, even in official documents and reports. All other military branches are supported by Royal Space Navy thru transportation, orbital bombardment or occasionally by Spaceguard Marines (Defenders of spaceships that are equipped for fights without atmosphere or gravity). The main purpose of the ARSN is however to secure space and intercept enemy vessels. Relying on getting technology mostly thru cooperation with Denebol and solving interplanetary travel with jumps through Sub-dimension left funding of science and transport vessels unnecessary for already outstretched budget. Because of this, Arnorian vessels are heavily focused on warfare. 

ARSN is equipped with versatile starfighter as is Air force.

The home of ARSN is the Assembly, orbital fortified shipyard. Although much less impressive than Denebolian stations, it serves its purpose.


Intelligence service

Although it is very limited and almost laughable compared to the Shield one, Arnor still has it. It is separated into two main branches, which hold themselves to Arnorian mindset of no deceiving, undercover operations and so on.

It may seem inefficient and blind, but all Arnorian needs to know is where the enemies are.

  • Speculatores

This is the main branch of intelligence. Their job is to take informations from exploratores and various scouts, gather reports from armies, news, informations about mood and culture of populations and intercept enemy transmitions. All these informations are then sorted into reports.

Speculatores have also side job of uncovering and exposing enemy or friendly agents and spies who might be interested in hurting or infiltrating Arnor.

  • Exploratores

Those who are in this branch of intelligence have the task to work as ''long range scouts''. They are mapping terrain, cities, armies, fleets and overall, planets. Their job is to gather these informations and then handle it to speculatores.


Independent warriors

These lone warriors, squads or whole warbands are wholly independent or very autonomous. Arnorian military and government holds no jurisdiction over them apart from basic laws.

  • Varangians

These are the Ar-Adûnâim mercenaries. As written in history, these men and women roam galaxy as bands of explorers, mercenaries or raiders. 

  • Telcontaiâr 

Telcontaiâr are explorers and adventurers who decided to travel worlds and hells of Sub-dimension. They are acquiring artefacts, knowledge, trophies and glory. Their equipment is full of enchantments, relics, foreign heraldry, chains and ornaments. None of them are the same nor is their equipment.

The best of them are legends and their prowess could rival those of The Sisters. They could be however counted on the fingers of hand for most of the aspirants are never heard of again. They have come to be known as Demon slayers, Hell walkers, Men of iron or Red champions.
